IIHS Test Track – Behind the Scenes

This joint virtual event with SAE Washington DC Section will take SAE members and their guests to the world’s largest covered test track, located at the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) Vehicle Research Center in Central Virginia.

During this event, you will get to watch vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention tests and see how IIHS evaluates headlights. IIHS experts will be available to answer your questions following the presentation.

IIHS is an independent, nonprofit scientific and educational organization dedicated to reducing deaths, injuries, and property damage from motor vehicle crashes. In 2015, IIHS opened the 5-acre covered track to allow for year-round testing of active safety systems, free from weather-related interruptions. Along with IIHS crash tests, these evaluations are the basis for the Institute’s widely consulted vehicle ratings.
