Safer products and processes are a key value proposition for business and can drive regional economic development. For a manufacturing facility, Green Chemistry and Engineering practices can yield costs savings in reduced energy and materials. For product development, greener chemistry and engineering can lead to new sources of revenue and quality improvements with more sustainable products and new performance characteristics. Greener chemistry and engineering can also improve compliance and reduce liabilities, such as the generation of hazardous waste, by substituting safer chemicals and processes.

This Tech-Fast will introduce you to the greener chemistry and engineering value proposition and tools to help adopt these practices, including the Green Chemistry Checklist, a tool developed by the Michigan Green Chemistry Roundtable. The discussion should be of particular interest to engineers and managers who design, use, or specify materials or chemical products.
